Chairperson of The Mountaineers New Facility Construction Committee

For the last 4-1/2 years I have served as the Chair, first for the Building Advisory Committee and subsequently for the New Facility Construction Committee.  Those committees were charged with evaluating our old building, developing a set of recommendations and ultimately to take on the tasks necessary to move us to our new home in Magnuson Park.  We broke ground on the renovation of building 67 in February of 2008 and moved into our new clubhouse in November of 2008.  While I was not the architect of record for the project I did have the opportunity to design some of the cooler parts of the facility.  My responsibilities included:

  • I helped author the reports and recommendations
  • I negotiated a complex purchase and sale agreement with the property purchaser
  • I was the principal negotiator with the Seattle Parks Department for a long term lease
  • I negotiated the construction contract with the general contractor
  • I designed a number of the aesthetic elements of the facility
  • I helped manage the owner's responsibility during construction
  • I negotiated and approved change orders and pay requests
