What do Architectural Services Cost for a Custom Single Family Home?
The
cost of designing a custom single family home varies depending on
the size and complexity of the house.
We tell our clients to expect to pay between 2% and 3% of the anticipated construction cost for our services. While we don't calculate our fees that way it is a useful budgetary range when doing initial planning.
Our proposals can be broken down into 3 general areas.
- For the design portion of the project (from Pre-Design through Design Development) we bill on an hourly basis. Our current hourly rate is $65 per hour. Typically the range is from 30 to 60 hours. We generally estimate 40 hours.
- For the construction documents part of the project we charge a flat fee. This is affected by the size of the house, the number of stories and it's structural complexity. This fee is generally between $2500 and $4500.
- Finally for the additional services we again bill on an hourly basis. Permit processing typically ranges from 5 to 10 hours, depending on the municipality.
The result of this is that for a us to design a typical two story custom house with 2800 square feet the fee would range between $4500 and $8500. We've had some projects cost less and a few cost more. Contact us for further information.
